Three Reasons You May Need To Hire An Electrician

You may need an electrician to fix a problem because you're upgrading an aspect of your home or for other reasons. Here are several specific situations in which you'll need their help.

Circuit Breakers Trip

One problem you may have is that the circuit breakers in the switchboard are tripping to the off position. This indicates that the wires are carrying a higher current than they were designed for. Plugging in too many appliances is often the cause. Though you can restore power by resetting the circuit breaker (in the switchboard), you should contact an electrician if the problem persists. It's dangerous to overload the wiring, and the electrician can upgrade it to handle everything you plan to use.

A circuit breaker is different from a residual current device (RCD) or a safety switch. An RCD instantly turns off if it recognises that current has strayed from the wires—into a dangerously wet hair dryer that has become live, for instance. A safety switch responds extremely quickly to protect people in the household from electrocution.

Three-phase Upgrade

Another reason to call an electrician is during a major installation of something that needs a three-phase electrical system, such as some ducted air conditioners. Three-phase wiring has triple the capacity of standard single-phase wiring, allowing it to handle massive demand. You can check whether any new system you're installing will require an upgraded electrical system.

Indoor and Outdoor Lighting

It's a pity to use a backyard garden only during the daytime, especially if you live in a moderate climate and enjoy balmy summer nights. An electrician can help install outdoor lights to make the yard inviting after nightfall. You could fit floodlights, which illuminate large patches, allowing you to see where you're going. Additionally, you could fit small, muted globes at ground level to brighten up a pathway. Fit the globes on only one side of the path, as fitting lights on both sides can be too bright.

An electrician can also install accent or coloured lights to shine on attractive features, such as a water fountain. Another way to create a beautiful nightscape is to fit lights into a pond. An electrician will know how to do this safely, using the appropriate lights and cabling. They can also ensure that the switches for the outdoor lights are in convenient spots near the back door so you don't have to stumble around in the dark. Alternatively, they could fit motion-sensor lights.
